Organizers of the Ghana Tertiary Awards, Youth Web Ghana, launched the 2016 edition of the Ghana Tertiary Awards at a spectacular event held at the Airport West Hotel, Accra on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
Speaking on the theme for this year's GTA, "Young People and Tertiary Students for a peaceful and credible election 2016 Experience," Mr. Richmond Amofa - Sarpong, Chief Executive Officer of Youth Web Ghana, admonished young people not to become instruments of violence but rather should influence the political terrain positively. He added that with Ghanaian youth making up about 44% of the nation's population, we had to protect the future of the nation.
Enlightening the public on this year's edition of the GTA, Mr. Amofa-Sarpong said that the 2016 edition was going to be more exciting and more involving with the coverage of the awards scheme expanding to cover more tertiary institutions in the country. New categories such as "Most Influential Student Physically Challenged", Most Influential Student Software Developer", "Most Influential Foreign Student" he announced had been added to the list of awards. He called on support from all stakeholders to make this year's awards a successful and memorable one.
Mr. Ivan Abban, General Manager of Youth Web Ghana, revealed to the media and students gathered the awards categories for the 2016 GTA and also introduced the members of the GTA Academy.
The Chairperson of the 2016 GTA Academy is Mr. George Nyeme - Tei. In an interview with Hangout Master Tv, the chairperson of the board promised the general public and fair and transparent awards scheme and encouraged as many students as possible to file nomination for this year's GTA. Notable among the media and students present at the well attended launch were 2015 winner of Student of the Year award, Mr. Eirene Nsudoon Binabibiand, Mr. Leslie Addo Listowell, Founder and Rector of The GTA Most Promising School of the Year 2015, Ghana Media School, representatives of Indomie and Airport West Hotel.
This year's Ghana Tertiary Awards will be held on October 14, 2016.
