“Skinned, which is scheduled for premiere at Silverbird on June 10th
has been nominated for an AMAA AWARD at the 2016 event in Nigeria. The Africa
Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA and The
AMA Awards, are presented annually to recognize excellence of professionals
in the film industry. It was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and run
through the Africa Film Academy. The awards are aimed at honoring and promoting
excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African
continent through arts and culture.
The award presentation is attended by
numerous media representatives, celebrities, politicians, journalists,
actresses and actors from all across the world. The AMAA awards are
widely considered to be Africa's most important film event and the most prestigious film award in Africa. The 2016
ceremony is scheduled to hold
in June 2016 and will take place in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
SKINNED, which made its US television debut
earlier this year is getting ready to make its African debut starting in Accra,
Ghana Friday June 10th at Silverbird cinemas. The movie is the
directorial debut of American actress and reality TV star LisaRaye McCoy along
with Morehouse professor Avery O. Williams and featuring one of Nollywoods most
watched actors Van Vicker. SKINNED also features Hollywood actors,
Jasmine Burke from “Ride Along” with
Ice Cube and Brad James from Tyler
Perry’s “For Better or Worse”.
SKINNED tells the story of Jolie, a young girl who is so
uncomfortable in her own skin and the stigma of what society places on dark
skin people that she uses skin lightening creams to alter her complexion. The harmful substances in the skin bleaching
products had an adverse effect on her skin and mental well-being. This film
pulls back the layers of the story as it relates to color, self-esteem,
acceptance, and being secure with how you look.
SKINNED was produced by Clarice Kulah of Divine
Entertainment Intl, Lotten Yeaney of LOT10 Productions who are both Liberian
and Sharon Tomlinson of Studio 11 Films in collaboration with Van Vicker of
Sky+Orange Productions.
